The Hanse network
Die Hanse today is an active network of towns and cities that historically were connected to the medieval Hanseatic League. The new HANSE was founded in 1980 and is today the world’s largest voluntary association of towns and cities. 186 cities and towns are members of the network. Die Hanse has set itself the task of reviving the ideas and spirit of hanseatic networks and cooperation to increase people’s awareness of the hanseatic history of their towns and cities and promote cooperation between them. The cities exchange competence, work on common projects in tourism, business and people to people connections and organize the yearly hanseatic days.
